A quiet but productive area, Atwater still bears the small town feeling and has not
changed in many years! Lately, this ambiance has attracted many artists of the caliber of
Don Bachard who attended Marshal High School and became a portrait painter of renown. He
painted Jerry Brown's portrait which proved to be a controversial issue because of the
abstractness of the work.Once a famous large Indian Community, Iron Eyes
Docy has had a residence here for 60 years. He is the famous Indian on the America
Beautiful Ad with a 'tear' in his eye, who has also been seen in many films over many
years.
Also in our colony we have Carolyn See, a book reviewer for the Los Angeles
Times and an author of "Golden Days" and many other California novels.
Atwater is truly worth looking into for the conservative family.
